Damn you Canadian inventions

Damn you 1910 for bringing us the chocolate bar. Every woman needs your support through pms, break ups and bad days...even worse for me, the nanimo bar. Mabel Jenkins you are brilliant and ever since I was a young pup I have internally thanked you for creating such a lush treat. But damn this simple housewife from Ladysmith, BC. This creation is one I cannot resist. Another one that screams my name every time I walk by a food court is 1957's poutine. Created in Quebec. How Americans haven't jumped all over this is a mystery to me and always will be. Next up is 1962, drum roll...instant mashed potatoes. Why? Why would this be a choice over real mashed potatoes? I can't grasp this one.
Now comes a hotel in Calgary in 1969 and a man named Walter. The Caesar or bloody Caesar as some may call it. Oh how you've influenced me to make some silly decisions, and yet I still come running back.
There are several very useful and exciting Canadian inventions. Let's take a trip back to 1950ish and thank Harry Wasylyk. You have made the lives of men and women around this globe so much easier and cleaner. The garbage bag. I use you daily. I cherish your ever so flexible movements. If I had instant mashed taters in my panty I would lovingly use you to dispose of them :)

Daily intake and Aprils plan

So the daily intake will be added to daily for a week. So at the end of the week all the foods consumed by this body will be posted on there and a calorie total per day will be posted so it's pretty easy to read and understand. And then Sunday or Monday I'll delete it and start another week. If I work out I'll add that there too. It should make it easy for those who wanted to know what my routine is.

Aprils game plan.

I think I'm going to make 8, NEW healthy recipes and post them once they are done.
I eat the same things week after week and I'm in dire need for a change.
17 exercise days. Minimum. Cardio, weights, whatever just make it happen 17 days in April. Baithing suit season is sneaking up quick.

And that's the plan so far.

Russian Borscht

The mennonite in me has come out for the evening.  I love borscht, I have used another recipe for awhile but had no idea what the nutritional value was of it so I decided to try this recipe.  I would use broth instead of just water. I tried with just water and it was a little bland, also I tried it right away and didnt care for it.  After I let it simmer for almost an hour and then sit with the lid on for over an hour it was delish!

Russian Borscht:
1 1/2 cups diced potatoe
1 cup sliced beets (I used 2 cups)
4 cups Veg stock or Water
2 Tablespoons butter (I used olive oil)
1 teaspoon caraway seed - optional - I didnt use
2 teaspoon salt
2 Celery Stock chopped
2 large carrot chopped
3 cups chopped red cabbage
black pepper to taste
Ok....it says 1/2 teaspoon fresh dill.  I used over a cup... its borscht...you need lots of dill!
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
1 tablespoon honey
1 cup tomato puree
sour cream for topping.

1.  Potatoes and Beets in broth, in a med saucepan, bring to boil and cook until soft.  Put aside.
2.  Melt butter in a large sauce pan over med heat. Stir in onions, carawat seeds and salt.  Cook until soft (5min) Then stir in carrots, celery and cabbage, Mix in the stock and cook for 10 mins with lid on.
3. Add beets, potatoes, dill weed, black pepper, cider vinegar, honey and tomato puree bring to a boil, reduce heat, simmer for 30-60 mins.
4. Top with sour cream....I LOVE Borscht with sour cream, to bad Im trying to be healthy ;)

This makes 8 or so servings.  Per Serving with out sour cream: 128 Cals, 5g fat, 19g carbs, 3g protein, 3.7g fiber.

Correction

I thought I could post in the tab "daily intake" everyday, I didnt know it was a one time wonder so Im not going to post my food intake until I figure out a better way of doing this...and besides I totally ate a cupcake today.   I did do abs with a medicine ball and shoulders before I left the house today tho so Im not as guilty as I think I am.

Today is Friday!

Friday for me normally means the start of a 3 day weekend.  Friday also means lunch with my dad, brother, sister and her 2 youngest kids. It means Jade will have the shrimp diane, my dad and I will both have the roasted mushroom soup, the kids will split chicken strips and fries with "NO KETCHUP" just watercress dip, and Warren will have whatever he feels like having that day.
However, I don't get a weekend this "weekend" as I'm working through til next Friday, and Jades busy having a princess tea party today.  I'm still going out for lunch but the soup will be enjoyed in a smaller, not so cute group.

Once a week I choose a dinner that I don't eat like a rabbit and I eat like a normal person.  That will probably be tonight and I'm trying to decide what to indulge in.   Today is day 18 or 19 in a 30 day cleanse I'm doing with 2 of my girlfriends.  I sorta have to be careful what I eat or it may not be worth it the next day.  If you know what I mean.

Anyway,  Ill post on my daily intake later when I decide what dinner will be.

My first post

Im starting a blog for a few reasons.
1. Because I wanted to for awhile but have hesitated because I've been scared no one will read it

2. To keep a online log of what I eat so others can read it. I get asked several times a week what I eat daily and explaining it each time gets tiring, so here we go.

3. To encourage my friends to be healthy.

So I'll give this a try and see where it goes from here.

To give you an idea of who I am, here are a few things about myself:
I'm 26, I've been a vegetarian since The day I graduated grade 7 (12yrs old), I am a pescetarianism vegetarian meaning I eat fish and some dairy. When I didn't know how easy googling recipes was I used to eat very poorly and as a result that and other factors led to packing on the pounds and I became a chubby chicky. Through learning how to eat (and still learning every day) plus exercise on a regular basis I am becoming the chicky I actually want to be. Hopefully I can help or inspire someone in my journey and I hope someone enjoys reading my rambles.
